How can I view documents from BSOL?

Answer

British Standards Online (BSOL) has a security feature that only allows documents to be opened if the FileOpen plug-in is installed on your device.

  • FileOpen plug-in should already be installed on managed computers on-campus. If you are using a managed device and do not have the plug-in please contact IT Services
  • For more information on the plug-in and to download it for your own device, see the BSI help pages
  • You need to be connected to the internet to open the documents for the first time. Once your documents have been authenticated, you will be able to access the documents offline.
  • PDFs from BSOL need to be viewed in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. They can't be opened in-browser (this may be the default setting for some browsers). To avoid errors, first save the document on your device and then open it.
