Why does this database/journal let me log in but I still can’t get access?
Answer
For the most part, access to journals, databases and e-books is purchased by Queen Mary Library. This is why you won't automatically have access to all online resources.
Sometimes, journals, databases or e-book providers will offer an option to sign in via your institution or as a Queen Mary user, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we have a subscription or access to all content in the site. In some instances, we have access to only some years of a journal or some modules within a database - you can check our coverage on the Library website.
To ensure that you're searching only for resources that we have access to, search via the Library website:
- You can use LibKey when browsing the internet for journal articles; this signposts the resources we have
- Databases can be searched from the A-Z page on the Library website
- You can search for ebooks on the 'Books, e-books and DVDs' tab in Library Search
The Library's 'Get it for me' service lets you request an article, book chapter, e-book, or journal issue that we don't currently have access to.
