Does Queen Mary have access to transcription software?

Answer

Queen Mary does not have a direct transcript service for students or staff. However, there are some alternatives that you could consider:

  • MS Word online. When opening Word online (not the desktop app), you will see the option on the top menu "Dictate". If you click over the down arrow below this, the option "Transcribe" will come up. You can then upload video or audio and MS Word online will create a transcript from this. Queen Mary currently allows 300 minutes worth of transcriptions per month using this option.

  • MS Teams. If you conduct your interviews via MS Teams, the software will create a transcript that can be downloaded as an MS Word document. This might require a significant level of clean-up.

  • Additionally, check with your department's admin team to see if they have a subscription or credits to the NVivo transcript add-on. Queen Mary has a subscription to NVivo, but some departments also pay for the additional transcript add-on.
