What is a library concession for DDS students and how do I process it?

Answer

Overview

  • Students with disabilities and dyslexia can have concessions requested for them by the DDS team (Disability and Dyslexia Service), for example, an initial 100% extension on the loan period for all Library material, access to study carrels and book fetching.
  • Some other Library services are now available for students who are registered with the DDS, please enquire by e-mailing library@qmul.ac.uk
  • Nick Holloway is the Library support who liaises with DDS.
  • Any requests for postal loans should be referred to Nick. 

Procedure

  • If a student requests concessions, advise them to contact the DDS Team.
  • The DDS Team will email library@qmul.ac.uk with concession notifications and Enquiries Team staff will process them.

Enquiries Team:

100% Loan extension

  1. Add a 'Message' on sierra for any user who is entitled to the 100% loan extension saying: "DDS advise that this user is entitled to an initial 100% extension on all Library materials. After this extension the loan reverts to automatic renewal unless reserved by another user. The automatic extension is for the usual loan length of the individual item." Followed by the initials of the member of staff and the date.
  2. Move the email to the Concessions Answered folder.
  3. Add details to the DDS 100% Extra Loan Time spreadsheet.

 

Study carrels

  1. Add a 'Message' on Sierra for any user who is entitled to access the study carrels saying: "DDS advise that this user is entitled to access the study carrels". Followed by the initials of the member of staff and the date.
  2. Forward the email to Nick Holloway who will add the details to his study carrel spreadsheet
  3. Move the email to the Concessions Answered folder.

 

Book fetching

  1. Add a 'Message' on Sierra for any user who is entitled to access the study carrels saying: "DDS advise that this user is entitled to book fetching". Followed by the initials of the member of staff and the date.
  2. Forward the email to Nick Holloway
  3. Move the email to the Concessions Answered folder.

 

Postal returns

  1. Add a 'Message' on Sierra for any user who is entitled to access the study carrels saying: "DDS advise that this user is entitled to postal returns". Followed by the initials of the member of staff and the date.
  2. Forward the email to Nick Holloway
  3. Move the email to the Concessions Answered folder.

 

Book scanning

  1. Add a 'Message' on Sierra for any user who is entitled to access the study carrels saying: "DDS advise that this user is entitled to book scanning". Followed by the initials of the member of staff and the date.
  2. Forward the email to Nick Holloway
  3. Move the email to the Concessions Answered folder.
